The Grant Project!

We have very generously been donated $6000 to our school and it is up to the grade 6 classes to decide what to do with it! We are working on developing ideas that will benefit our community the most.

We asked two people from all classes in the school on what they what for the town with a sheet of paper with questions. After we did survey we calculated up all the data onto one big chart.
After that each group started a planner of what they wanted to see in the town that could be built in our time frame and would cost 6,000 dollars or less. Then there will be a MOCK (fake) town council meeting on May 11th where all groups will present their idea to the council and then the council will decide on one. We are lucky enough to have the (real) Mayor Sorenson help to run our meeting.


This task has been both hard and easy. It depends a lot on if you are willing to work with the people in your group, or if your friends with someone in your group, or if you don't like one person in your group very much. Sometimes you might have two different ideas but they don’t work together. If this happens, you can always find another one.

Building a Model By Erin        Almost every science period Sandra Becker from the university from Calgary  comes to our class to do research, then we go to the makerspace lab to work on our models. Our models are a deep thinking question about sky science that we did research on, to eventually start building a model to show the answer to our question. Some of our questions changed after doing some research. We have to use flexible thinking because maybe the model that we had in mind doesn't work, so we have to change it to make it work. At the end of every work period we write in our log books. We use the log book because it shows our thinking throughout the process of making our models.         My question is, why is there microgravity in space? Welcome to 6M!

Hello parents and students of 6M! My name is Natalie Major and this will be my second year teaching Grade 6 at BES. I have been in the Canadian Rockies School Division since 2013.  In 2012 I visited Canmore from Ontario and fell in love with the mountains instantly. The following year I made the move permanently to start my life in the beautiful Bow Valley. I love the active lifestyle that the Rockies has and feel very grateful that I can share my passion  for learning with the Banff community.  I will be using this blog to post updates, assignments and reminders on a regular basis.
